Great Impact

Even though I am technically not yet an adult I have had a few adult experiences. Being an Impact student has really played a huge roll in my life by making me more mature and having a few adult responsibilities. Impact students have a lot to learn about responsibility, and time management probably faster than any other regular high school students. The reason being is that our high school teachers never babied us. They worked to prepare us for when it came time to take a college class on our own.  I remember my freshman year feeling like a slap in the face with all the work. Coming from a middle school where I had little to no homework nor responsibilities to worry about did not prepare me for Impact.  Freshman year I remember being taught how to be organized, and responsible for your own behavior and actions. Avid was one of the main classes that helped us with learning things like how to take notes,  be organized, take full responsibility for our grades and talking...

Plans

In my previous blog, I mentioned the ideas I was considering to compare and contrast two distinct poems. Which I based on my second essay "I Don't Love You Just Need You". In an earlier blog, I had also mentioned my ideas for a first essay topic over a comic novel Stitches. I have recently been assigned to write a third essay over either one of those essays. After considering both my options I decided to write over my second essay "I Don't Love You Just Need You." Not only am I interested in the topic myself, but I believe it would be much easier to find research over it. So for my third essay, I plan to revise and editing my second one by adding more information over my topic. I will start by correcting any mistakes I had made originally.  For example, grammar, and punctuation, so my essay has a better flow. including my citations and errors with the MLA format. After fixing those original mistakes I plan to add more information over the fear of lov...

Hate Loving You (poems)

After reading various poems from the book 180 more Extraordinary Poems For Every Day . Two poems with similar themes stood out to me. "Please Come Late" by Hugo Williams and Hate poem" by Julie Sheehan share they contradicting of a love-hate relationship. https://media.youqueen.com/2014/12/love-hate-relationship.jpg     The poem "Please Come Late" is about a guy waiting for his ex-girlfriend if I had to take a guess at a coffee shop. They seemed to have gotten in an argument and set up at a date to meet up and try to fix things. He's been waiting long enough to finish drinking two cups of coffee and tries to come up with excuses on why she is could be late "praying you are lost"(8). As much as he would love for her to show up he tends to contradict himself various times. In the beginning, he starts off with "Please come late"(1) and right after also mentions "Please don't come"(5). He then tries to convince ...

Puzzled

Tariff by Michelle Boisseau poem really caught my attention mainly because it had me confused all types of ways. By simply reading the title I thought I had an idea of what it was going to be about. After I actually read it I was puzzled. I had to actually read it various times in order to get an idea of what the poem is actually about. By reading the title "Tariff" I immediately thought of something political or financial like taxes.  Then from reading the poem, it really when to something completely different then I was expecting. What I got from the first time reading the poem was the authour mentioning about on old friendship that where she passed away twenty years ago and her having to do with her death. The first stanza was straight forward it was just mainly the second one that still has me questioning? It was time to look more in detail and braked down each line and then connect all my thoughts together. From jus...

Deja vu

After many years of going to school, I have been assigned different varieties of books like The Book Thief (novel), or 1984 (political fiction. I  never thought I would be assigned a graphic novel especially not in a college course. I have always loved reading comic books as a young girl. I remember that my favorite comic books in elementary were The Babysitters Club, but after being told various times that comic books weren't "real books" according to my fourth and fifth grade reading teachers. I surrounded graphic books with a sort of stereotype that all comic books are just for kids. The teachers were encouraging us to read chapter books. That eventually lead them to band us from checking out any graphic books at the school library. (https://www.bustle.com/articles/178530-on-the-baby-sitters-clubs-30th-anniversary-author-ann-m-martin-and-editor-david-levithan-reflect-on) I was not expecting to be encouraged to read a graphic n...

Change

Growing up I was an only child until I was four. My mom was pregnant I remember I was generally excited. Unfortunately, I didn't get to meet my brother or at least I do not remember doing so. I remember my parents were devastated, yet they did the best they could for me not to feel companionless. We use to have what we called "Noche de Juegos" which means game night. They took time out of their day to play with me. (Christmas day)my dad spent the day teaching me how to play the piano My parents were very protective and loving. I was always used to getting what I wanted or getting to go places I would want to go. So you could imagine what seven year old me felt when I got the news that I was going to be a big sister once again. I remember at first I thought it was going to be fun to have someone new to play with. That was not the case I couldn't play anything fun with her. I once tried playing barbies with her and she would just put everything in her mo...

Plastic pollution

I plan to revise and edit my second essay to a research paper by adding more information to back up my claims on the negative effects that plastic pollution has on our environment as well as species.  Including how zero waste can have a positive impact in the future. I will compare my experience to other beaches that have been affected by trash in the past. Mainly reference information of Mumbai Juhu beach in India that was hugely polluted by large amounts of plastic. Explaining how they reduce the amount of plastic by not only cleaning up the beach but changing their lifestyle by incorporating recycling trash into their daily routine. Chatterjee,  Badri. “Despite 50,000 Kg of Trash Being Cleared, Mumbai’s Juhu Beach Remains Filthy.”  Despite 50,000 Kg of Trash Being Cleared, Mumbai’s Juhu Beach Remains Filthy , Hindustan Times, 29 May 2108, www.hindustantimes.com/mumbai-news/despite-50-000-kg-of-trash-being-cleared-...
