Change

Growing up I was an only child until I was four. My mom was pregnant I remember I was generally excited. Unfortunately, I didn't get to meet my brother or at least I do not remember doing so. I remember my parents were devastated, yet they did the best they could for me not to feel companionless. We use to have what we called "Noche de Juegos" which means game night. They took time out of their day to play with me.

(Christmas day)my dad spent the day teaching me how to play the piano
My parents were very protective and loving. I was always used to getting what I wanted or getting to go places I would want to go. So you could imagine what seven year old me felt when I got the news that I was going to be a big sister once again. I remember at first I thought it was going to be fun to have someone new to play with. That was not the case I couldn't play anything fun with her. I once tried playing barbies with her and she would just put everything in her mouth making it really frustrating.

As time passed by I remember that my parents no long made time just for me but for both of us. It was a big life changer for me.  Slowly by slowly, things started changing my parents were to busy taking care of my new baby sister that "Noche de Juegos" vanished before my eyes.

I did not like being a new big sister and remember always messing around with her in ways that would make her cry like taking her toys. As I get older I learned to find things that we both able to enjoy without worrying about her swallowing a toy.

Even if I tease her, make her cry, or even argue with her she will always be my baby sister. She has overall one of the best things that has happened to me and as we get older our bond seems to get stronger now that we have more things to relate to.

  1. OMG!!! I remember being jealous of my little sister when I was younger as well. It's crazy how we transition from being the center of attention to having to share that spot with someone else and learn to become a little bit more responsible. Anyways, do you still play the piano?
