Puzzled

Tariff by Michelle Boisseau poem really caught my attention mainly because it had me confused all types of ways. By simply reading the title I thought I had an idea of what it was going to be about. After I actually read it I was puzzled. I had to actually read it various times in order to get an idea of what the poem is actually about. By reading the title "Tariff" I immediately thought of something political or financial like taxes.  Then from reading the poem, it really when to something completely different then I was expecting. What I got from the first time reading the poem was the authour mentioning about on old friendship that where she passed away twenty years ago and her having to do with her death. The first stanza was straight forward it was just mainly the second one that still has me questioning? It was time to look more in detail and braked down each line and then connect all my thoughts together. From jus...

Deja vu

After many years of going to school, I have been assigned different varieties of books like The Book Thief (novel), or 1984 (political fiction. I  never thought I would be assigned a graphic novel especially not in a college course. I have always loved reading comic books as a young girl. I remember that my favorite comic books in elementary were The Babysitters Club, but after being told various times that comic books weren't "real books" according to my fourth and fifth grade reading teachers. I surrounded graphic books with a sort of stereotype that all comic books are just for kids. The teachers were encouraging us to read chapter books. That eventually lead them to band us from checking out any graphic books at the school library. (https://www.bustle.com/articles/178530-on-the-baby-sitters-clubs-30th-anniversary-author-ann-m-martin-and-editor-david-levithan-reflect-on) I was not expecting to be encouraged to read a graphic n...

Change

Growing up I was an only child until I was four. My mom was pregnant I remember I was generally excited. Unfortunately, I didn't get to meet my brother or at least I do not remember doing so. I remember my parents were devastated, yet they did the best they could for me not to feel companionless. We use to have what we called "Noche de Juegos" which means game night. They took time out of their day to play with me. (Christmas day)my dad spent the day teaching me how to play the piano My parents were very protective and loving. I was always used to getting what I wanted or getting to go places I would want to go. So you could imagine what seven year old me felt when I got the news that I was going to be a big sister once again. I remember at first I thought it was going to be fun to have someone new to play with. That was not the case I couldn't play anything fun with her. I once tried playing barbies with her and she would just put everything in her mo...

Plastic pollution

I plan to revise and edit my second essay to a research paper by adding more information to back up my claims on the negative effects that plastic pollution has on our environment as well as species.  Including how zero waste can have a positive impact in the future. I will compare my experience to other beaches that have been affected by trash in the past. Mainly reference information of Mumbai Juhu beach in India that was hugely polluted by large amounts of plastic. Explaining how they reduce the amount of plastic by not only cleaning up the beach but changing their lifestyle by incorporating recycling trash into their daily routine. Chatterjee,  Badri. “Despite 50,000 Kg of Trash Being Cleared, Mumbai’s Juhu Beach Remains Filthy.”  Despite 50,000 Kg of Trash Being Cleared, Mumbai’s Juhu Beach Remains Filthy , Hindustan Times, 29 May 2108, www.hindustantimes.com/mumbai-news/despite-50-000-kg-of-trash-being-cleared-...

Keeping Up With The Trash

My trash cans Waste management trucks pass through my neighborhood twice a week Tuesdays and Fridays. We have two different trash cans on the side of my house. One is for our actual trash and the other one is for our recycling items. Day 1 of keeping up with my trash. I never really realized how much trash my family and I produce. We throw away two to three full trash bags a week. I never really paid much attention to what we throw away until now. Much of it consisted of consist of leftover food such as, packaging from the food products that we either forget to recycle or can't be recycled. In the latest picture of my trash, you can see an old pair of jeans that were thrown away by my sister. Whats in my trash can? I tend to try to recycle as much as I can. We reuse the grocery bags we get from the store as trash bags for the rooms around the house. We recycle most of the water bottle, cans, glass bottles, and old papers from school. ...

My Food's Long Distance Relationship

If you took a look at my third blog "'Too Busy' for a Healthy Lifestyle"   post you can see that most of what I eat is processed foods. In this case, I do not have much of a  first hand, nor a second-hand connection with who grows the food I'm eating. If we took a look at my typical McDonalds breakfast several people come between me and my meal. From Cattle ranchers to the people who package and serve my food. An overview of what comes between our meals. I notice that many fruits and vegetables at the store come pre-chopped and packaged for on the go. This refers back to my previous blog it is much easier to grab and go than to do it yourself especially when you run a tight schedule.  I came across this tweet in tweeter and really made me realize how pointless some of the plastic packagings really are. tweet from twitter. While at the grocery store I decided to observe what other people had in their...

"Too Busy" for a Heathy Lifestyle

As a high school and college student, it's really hard to keep up with a healthy diet or at times what I eat. In all honesty, I just eat whatever I see. With so much homework, studying, and club meetings is difficult to keep up with what I'm going to eat . When my English professor asked us to keep a food journal it was difficult to keep up with because I would usually end up finishing my food before I even got to take a picture of it. Journaling what I eat has made me realize a lot of bad habits I’ve been doing. You would think that with so much on my plate with school there’s practically no time to eat. On the contrary, I learned that I stress eat a lot of the time, especially when doing homework or studying. Even though I'm not really hungry I still look for something to munch on whether it be candy or chips. ( Don't let the plantain chips fool you I just ran out of hot fries) I also realize that I do not make the healthiest cho...
