Keeping Up With The Trash

My trash cans
Waste management trucks pass through my neighborhood twice a week Tuesdays and Fridays. We have two different trash cans on the side of my house. One is for our actual trash and the other one is for our recycling items.

Day 1 of keeping up with my trash.
I never really realized how much trash my family and I produce. We throw away two to three full trash bags a week. I never really paid much attention to what we throw away until now. Much of it consisted of consist of leftover food such as, packaging from the food products that we either forget to recycle or can't be recycled. In the latest picture of my trash, you can see an old pair of jeans that were thrown away by my sister.
Whats in my trash can?

I tend to try to recycle as much as I can. We reuse the grocery bags we get from the store as trash bags for the rooms around the house. We recycle most of the water bottle, cans, glass bottles, and old papers from school.

During the weekend my trash filled up even quicker than usual since we had a party. The trash can was fulled up with styrofoam plates and cups which are not recyclable. Not to forget lots of leftover food and napkins.

After party trash
Landfilled trash is a huge problem in today's society according to Annenberg Learner website there is approximately 23 tons of garbage in today's landfilled. As observed what my family and I disposed of I realized that the amount of our trash could easily decrease if we put actions such as composting, more actions in recycling, and reducing the items we buy that can not be recycled like styrofoam and napkins. Maybe instead of using napkins start using rags which are reusable. Instead of throwing old clothing away finding new ways to reuse old clothing. I will definitely start making some changes and even though it's a small change it will definitely be having an impact.

Plastic pollution

I plan to revise and edit my second essay to a research paper by adding more information to back up my claims on the negative effects that plastic pollution has on our environment as well as species.  Including how zero waste can have a positive impact in the future. I will compare my experience to other beaches that have been affected by trash in the past. Mainly reference information of Mumbai Juhu beach in India that was hugely polluted by large amounts of plastic. Explaining how they reduce the amount of plastic by not only cleaning up the beach but changing their lifestyle by incorporating recycling trash into their daily routine. Chatterjee,  Badri. “Despite 50,000 Kg of Trash Being Cleared, Mumbai’s Juhu Beach Remains Filthy.”  Despite 50,000 Kg of Trash Being Cleared, Mumbai’s Juhu Beach Remains Filthy , Hindustan Times, 29 May 2108, www.hindustantimes.com/mumbai-news/despite-50-000-kg-of-trash-being-cleared-...

"Too Busy" for a Heathy Lifestyle

As a high school and college student, it's really hard to keep up with a healthy diet or at times what I eat. In all honesty, I just eat whatever I see. With so much homework, studying, and club meetings is difficult to keep up with what I'm going to eat . When my English professor asked us to keep a food journal it was difficult to keep up with because I would usually end up finishing my food before I even got to take a picture of it. Journaling what I eat has made me realize a lot of bad habits I’ve been doing. You would think that with so much on my plate with school there’s practically no time to eat. On the contrary, I learned that I stress eat a lot of the time, especially when doing homework or studying. Even though I'm not really hungry I still look for something to munch on whether it be candy or chips. ( Don't let the plantain chips fool you I just ran out of hot fries) I also realize that I do not make the healthiest cho...
