Keeping Up With The Trash

My trash cans Waste management trucks pass through my neighborhood twice a week Tuesdays and Fridays. We have two different trash cans on the side of my house. One is for our actual trash and the other one is for our recycling items. Day 1 of keeping up with my trash. I never really realized how much trash my family and I produce. We throw away two to three full trash bags a week. I never really paid much attention to what we throw away until now. Much of it consisted of consist of leftover food such as, packaging from the food products that we either forget to recycle or can't be recycled. In the latest picture of my trash, you can see an old pair of jeans that were thrown away by my sister. Whats in my trash can? I tend to try to recycle as much as I can. We reuse the grocery bags we get from the store as trash bags for the rooms around the house. We recycle most of the water bottle, cans, glass bottles, and old papers from school. ...

My Food's Long Distance Relationship

If you took a look at my third blog "'Too Busy' for a Healthy Lifestyle"   post you can see that most of what I eat is processed foods. In this case, I do not have much of a  first hand, nor a second-hand connection with who grows the food I'm eating. If we took a look at my typical McDonalds breakfast several people come between me and my meal. From Cattle ranchers to the people who package and serve my food. An overview of what comes between our meals. I notice that many fruits and vegetables at the store come pre-chopped and packaged for on the go. This refers back to my previous blog it is much easier to grab and go than to do it yourself especially when you run a tight schedule.  I came across this tweet in tweeter and really made me realize how pointless some of the plastic packagings really are. tweet from twitter. While at the grocery store I decided to observe what other people had in their...

"Too Busy" for a Heathy Lifestyle

As a high school and college student, it's really hard to keep up with a healthy diet or at times what I eat. In all honesty, I just eat whatever I see. With so much homework, studying, and club meetings is difficult to keep up with what I'm going to eat . When my English professor asked us to keep a food journal it was difficult to keep up with because I would usually end up finishing my food before I even got to take a picture of it. Journaling what I eat has made me realize a lot of bad habits I’ve been doing. You would think that with so much on my plate with school there’s practically no time to eat. On the contrary, I learned that I stress eat a lot of the time, especially when doing homework or studying. Even though I'm not really hungry I still look for something to munch on whether it be candy or chips. ( Don't let the plantain chips fool you I just ran out of hot fries) I also realize that I do not make the healthiest cho...

"Please Help Save Our Home"

I always thought that the idea of helping out the community and volunteering in various opportunities would be fun, but never really put myself out there and committed to actually volunteer. Until I started my freshmen year at IMPACT Early College High School. Once I joined the Spanish club they invited all new members to volunteer at Exploration Green. Not really knowing what to expect I went on to do more research on what Exploration Green was about. Turns out that Exploration Green used to be an old golf course until 2001 when it closed down. I remember the first tree planting experience on September 10, 2016, was mostly composed potting up and repotting plants. One of the most consuming work was trying to wipe out a massive weed infestation.  No real action on tree planing was happening yet. It was still an astonishing experience to learn more about different plants we don't see very often and how they all help out the ecosystem. After seven ...

Family ranch at Antigo Morelos Tamaulipas One of the most memorable places I enjoy visiting to appreciate nature at its finest has to be the family ranch located in Antigo Morelos Tamaulipas. I recently went last summer; One of the many memorable things about this place has to be how its surrounded by grassy mountains in the background. Which is something you don't see very often. Not to forget that since the ranch is pretty isolated you really get to enjoy natures beauty filled with pleasant fondness. As you hike further away from the ranch there are lots to encounter. The best thing I've encountered last summer while taking a walk with my cousins was a stream of water that splashes down like a mini waterfall which  is breathtaking.  My favorite part of going to the ranch is when you walk through the tall grass encountering resting butterflies, and as soon as you walk near them they soar around. Another thing I  enjoy doing is bein...
