"Too Busy" for a Heathy Lifestyle

As a high school and college student, it's really hard to keep up with a healthy diet or at times what I eat. In all honesty, I just eat whatever I see. With so much homework, studying, and club meetings is difficult to keep up with what I'm going to eat . When my English professor asked us to keep a food journal it was difficult to keep up with because I would usually end up finishing my food before I even got to take a picture of it.

Journaling what I eat has made me realize a lot of bad habits I’ve been doing. You would think that with so much on my plate with school there’s practically no time to eat. On the contrary, I learned that I stress eat a lot of the time, especially when doing homework or studying. Even though I'm not really hungry I still look for something to munch on whether it be candy or chips. ( Don't let the plantain chips fool you I just ran out of hot fries)

I also realize that I do not make the healthiest choices, for example, in the morning I usually get McMuffin and large caramel frape. Which is not completely a terrible choice but could be better. The only issue is that I find it much easier to grab and go when running late. Another issue I realized is that I eat most of the time laying down or I eat and go lay down. Which I know isn't pretty helpful with digesting the food.

With such impulse of getting things done and making sure I'm not late in the mornings, I don't have time to make and pack lunch. I also don't have a choice to go out to eat, so I'm stuck with cafeteria food. Which is not that bad, but it can get boring at times. I usually stick to the same thing (hot and spicy chicken sandwich) just cause I don't like taking a risks. If I got something that's not so appetizing There was no going back. Surprisingly I decided to change things up and tried their new pasta bar this week. It wasn't the best, but yet again it is school food.

What I eat for dinner depends on what my mom cooks. This week she went all out and made gorditas stuffed with chorizo eggs and black beans. She usually balances our diet with healthier choices like grilled chicken with chopped vegetables, unfortunately, I ate it before taking a picture.

I realized so much looking back to this past week and I will certainly try to make time in my day to exercise or create a healthy lunch for school.

  1. I understand how you feel with trying to pay attention to what you eat. After a long day of working hard in school, sometimes you just want a good meal, no matter if it is healthy or not. My mom also tries to balance out our meals for dinner. I like how you ended your blog with hopes of trying to create a healthier lifestyle.

  2. I too was forgetful in taking pictures for my blog. Your “study eating” was a unique take of the food journal assignment. I like how you added humorous thoughts in parenthesis. I completely relate to being in a rush in the mornings and not finding the time for a nutritious diet.

  3. I completely relate to having too much homework to be able to eat proper meals all the time. Also, I know cafeteria food gets so boring and bland so quickly. I try to add condiments to make it taste a little bit better.

  4. I feel like we are on the same boat when it comes to being to busy to eat healthy! Sometimes we are on a go and just get the fastest thing there is to eat without realizing how unhealthy it may be! And wow, cafeteria food was not appealing at all! You just brought back images to my mind!

Plastic pollution

I plan to revise and edit my second essay to a research paper by adding more information to back up my claims on the negative effects that plastic pollution has on our environment as well as species.  Including how zero waste can have a positive impact in the future. I will compare my experience to other beaches that have been affected by trash in the past. Mainly reference information of Mumbai Juhu beach in India that was hugely polluted by large amounts of plastic. Explaining how they reduce the amount of plastic by not only cleaning up the beach but changing their lifestyle by incorporating recycling trash into their daily routine. Chatterjee,  Badri. “Despite 50,000 Kg of Trash Being Cleared, Mumbai’s Juhu Beach Remains Filthy.”  Despite 50,000 Kg of Trash Being Cleared, Mumbai’s Juhu Beach Remains Filthy , Hindustan Times, 29 May 2108, www.hindustantimes.com/mumbai-news/despite-50-000-kg-of-trash-being-cleared-...
